Guestbook

Many thanks to our guests who have taken the time to leave reviews and provide further information.

You can expect the most spectacular views and a quaint coastal setting! You can sit in the windows or on the porch and enjoy the crashing waves and watch the sheep. We enjoyed many walks and quick trips into town and local sights. The house is full of history. Our communication with Peter was spot on and his caretaker was wonderful. Very friendly and helpful! Loved it

Mary,

The view was outstanding. Easy check in and the ocean front beach is so close by. Right on the Atlantic way, couldn't have been better for the view. We had a great stay and the locals were great. We would go back for sure!

Dana,

We couldn’t have dreamed up a more perfect stay. The view is transformative. We saw dolphins from the front porch. Peter was kind and prompt with responses. We can’t say enough about how charming and comfortable the School House is.

Yana,

This place is just pure magic. Dolphins in the bay, a view in every direction, the cozy house, and Mucros head- which was the most beautiful place I saw in all of Ireland. The people in Donegal were so friendly (neighbor told us all about the history of the school, and the surrounding lands)and Kilcar was just so charming. I almost don’t want anyone to know about the absolute beauty this place holds, but then I also want everyone to know that there is a small slice of heaven on earth and this place is it.

Katy,

We enjoyed a great week at the cottage in August. Yes, we got lucky with the weather but the situation and the views are spectacular in any case. Lovely outdoor space too to sit down and just soak up the place. Inside the cottage is cosy and comfortable. The kitchen is small but well stocked and we cooked meals and had plenty of space for a family of 6. Beds are fine and the house is clean and well looked after. We borrowed the sand wedges and hit the 'dangerous' beach once or twice, which was enjoyable. Short walk to a safer beach so that's ok. Also strolled into the village of Kilcar. All in all a great stay and we did light the real turf fire a couple of times.

Donal Owens,

We stayed here for three days in late November 2016 and loved it. The location is stunning. The cottage has character, has massive windows to take in the views and has everything you need; the multi-fuel open fire works a treat. We will be back.

Darrell,

We had a fantastic holiday here in the Muckross School House. A traditional Irish cottage with a welcoming open fire and views across the Atlantic Ocean, it is nothing short of breathtaking. The cottage itself is cosy and comfortable, the perfect place to disconnect from the outside world and relax. The setting is idyllic, sat on the side of a hill overlooking the beach below, its easy to simply spend hours looking out at the ever changing landscape. The beach itself is just a short walk away, as is Muckross Head and the second of the two beaches located on the point. The School House is also perfectly situated for exploring the surrounding areas that are located along the spectacular Wild Atlantic Way. We had a fantastic adventure staying here and look forward to coming back in 2017!

We have stayed here twice now and on both holidays we could have easily stay much longer! The cottage is well equipped and was cozy and comfortable. The open fire is a lovely feature. The bay below the cottage is in easy walking distance and with 2 young children this was a great bonus. We spent a lot of time down there and we were lucky enough to watch a family of dolphins playing in the surf for around half an hour one evening. In such a lovely rural setting you can forget about the usual stresses of normal life and just enjoy the peace and quiet, but with Kilcar and Killybegs close by you are not short of choices for shops, restaurants, pubs etc. The cottage is also in a great location for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way. We would happily recommend this cottage and will most certainly be back ourselves!!

Hazel McGrath,

The situation of this Donegal holiday cottage is spectacular, unique, and the views breathtaking! Inside it is comfortable with a traditional fire with turf and logs and central heating if needed. It is well equipped with everything necessary for a relaxing stay, perfect for enthusiastic walkers and also perfect for just sitting watching the sea as it is continually changing. One afternoon we were amazed to see dolphins in the bay in front of the cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed staying there and hope to be back again soon!
